$271 - $491 TOTAL WORKSHOP COST
($190 tuition + $10 supply fee + $71 - $291 lodging & meals package of choice)

This workshop is designed for those who have always been intrigued by bread baking but somehow always found themselves intimidated by the process. Students will be briefly introduced to the historical and cultural relevance of bread baking, as well as the social significance of breaking bread with others. Beginner students will learn a handful of some of the most basic bread recipes and techniques, including no-knead, biga, pizza dough and biscuits, and leave the weekend with the confidence to start baking their own daily bread.

Class Level: Beginner/Novice

Aubrey's first foray into bread baking was while she was living on a farm in northern Patagonia that was so remote that they had to have supplies brought to them by boat twice a month. They baked bread every day without once looking at a recipe, and Aubrey learned just how simple bread baking can be. Since then, she's expanded into more complicated recipes. She especially enjoys making pizza dough, focaccia, flat breads, and good loaves that can be shared with loved ones.

"As a teenager I fell in love with baking and the comfort of the process: if you add the same amount of ingredients in the same order and bake it in the same way, it'll come out just as you expect it every time. For years I stayed in my comfort zone of cookies, cakes and sweet treats and was intimidated by the process bread baking. While working and living on farms in Europe I learned from others how to bake bread and realized how beautifully simple and fun the process is. I especially love making overnight no-knead breads that never cease to amaze me how something so easy can make something so wonderful to share with others." -Leah Twillman
